MINEHEAD & West Somerset Golf Club Seniors started their week with a 666 competition with one score counting on the first six holes, two scores on the next six holes and all three scores to count on the final six holes.
Nine teams took to the tee and perhaps unsurprisingly, arguably the strongest team on paper, Dave Oatridge, John Burrows and Graham Smith came through the pack to claim first place with 83 points.
Second position on count back with 80 points went to Ash Stockley, Sandy Lyons and Richard Burton, just ahead of third placed Trevor Stephens, Chris Durman and Dave Walmsley with the same score.
However, the story of the day belonged to Tim Evans who managed a hole in one on the par 3 14th. This was Tim’s first ever hole in one after 40 or so years of trying, so many congratulations to him, and his achievement was rightly celebrated in the clubhouse in the time-honoured tradition.
The Seniors played a Stableford off the red tees on Wednesday of last week and with the fine conditions a full entry resulted in a very close competition.
The winner on count back with 38 points was Bob Arthington, just ahead of Roger Read, with Neville Parsons third place with 37.
A more relaxed 3 clubs and a putter competition was played last Friday. The winner with 39 points was Chris Garwood.
