MINEHEAD & West Somerset Golf Club’s Ladies Championship was played in strong winds on Thursday, 11th July.
But on the Saturday , the 13th July, there was hardly any wind. The winner of the best gross rounds and club champion again was Deano Carlin with 95+87=182, Second was Tricia Grinter with 97+95=192 and third was Jenny Elliott with 102+96=198. The winner of the best nett was Emma Harris with 72+70= 142.
At the beginning of June the Ping 4Ball Better ball competition was played for. This was a Stableford, played in pairs. The winners were Cath Binding & Liz Welsu with 41 points, second were Paula Parkin & Ros Chidgey with 39 and third were Sue Garwood & Hazel Binding with 35.
Two cup competitions were played on the following Thursday - the Powell Cup for ladies with a handicap of 21 and unde. The winner was Deano carling with 88-14=74, second was Sarah Hill with 95-20=75 and third was Kay Luckett with 98-21=77. The Cromer Cup for Ladies with a handicap of 22 and over was won by Gunnette Bowyer with 98-29=69, second was Hazel Binding with 114-41=73, and thied was Janet |Handley with 118 -39=79.
The next Thursday we had a bit of mid-summer madness - ready to play at 7.30, a Bowmaker played in 3s with a shotgun start. The teams were drawn with a high handicapper, a mid handicapper and a low handicappe. To add a variation the high handicap played off the blue tees on the pars. The winners were Deano Carlin, Ginnette Bowyer & Ingrid Swinburn with 79 points, second were Anne Oglesby, Corinne Rees & Paula Parkin with 72 points and third were Sarah Hill, Ruth Ball & Janet Handley with 71. Players then came in for a lovely and well-earned cooked breakfast.
The 27th of the month the Centenary trophy was played fo. This was a medal competition, played on a very windy day, and the winner was Ginnette Bowyer with a wonderful nett 68, second was Anne Oglesby with a nett 73 and third was Corinne Rees with a nett 74.
The first Thursday in July was another medal competition and again the wind was very strong. The winner was Deano Carlin with 86-13=73, on count back from Tricia Grinter with 94-21=73 and third was Kay Luckett with 95-21=74.
Two ICL matches have been played against Orchardleigh at home which was won 5-2 and away Minehead drew 31/2 – 31/2. Another ICL match has been played against Tall Pines which Minehead also won. It was played in the rain and everybody got very wet.
