THE newly-formed Minehead AFC 1610 Ladies played their first ever match on August 6, a friendly away to Bishops Lydeard Reserves.
It was enjoyed by the players and both sets of fans, with the skilful and more experienced Lydeard side emerging comfortable winners.
After the final whistle, Minehead coach Christina Storey said: “I am so proud of every one of my players. Despite the score, everyone kept working hard and there was a massive improvement in our performance as the game went on.
“We would like to thank 1610 and Snazaroo for their support, and Minehead AFC chairman Karl Stove and club secretary Sarah Vickers for all of their efforts behind the scenes. This evening’s match would not have been possible without them.”
At half-time, Karl presented Lydeard’s secretary Gary Brown with a print from local artist Leo Davey’s West Somerset Railway series to commemorate the game.
