MINEHEAD Blues travelled to Stoke St. Gregory to play Ruishton Rockets in the quarter finals of the Taunton & District Youth League’s Under 11s Cup - and came away with a splendid 1-0 success.

After winning on penalties against Staplegrove FC in the previous round Minehead were looking to reach their third semi final in four years.

The first half was a very tight affair with Minehead managing to carve out a couple of hard half chances but apart from that the game was mostly played in the middle of the park.

For the visitors the hardworking midfield of Riley, Rory, Jack and Reuben battled really well against a team enjoying a lot of success in their division. However, there was still no goals and at the break the score was 0-0

Minehead were on the front foot from the start of the second half and took the lead with a great piece of combination play involving Rory, Oaklen and Leon ending up with Jack placing the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal, giving their keeper no chance.

After the goal Minehead had to withstand some heavy pressure from Ruishton but the back three of Ben, Buddy and Henry, along with goalkeeper Louis, stayed strong and resilient throughout.

Minehead fought their way back to control the game with incredible hard work and teamwork from everyone including the substitutes who came on, Harry, Oaklen and Alfie, who all made a telling contribution.

The second half carried on being a tight affair but Minehead stayed firm to close out the game 1-0 with their second clean sheet in a row and now proceed to the semi finals against Wembdon.

Hhuge congratulations go to all of the boys and thanks go to the parents for their incredible support during the game. Up the Blues!
