MINEHEAD are the new leaders of the Under 16 section in the Somerset Girls Football League on goal difference after they triumphed 7-0 away to mid-table Bishops Lydeard over the weekend.
Minehead showed quality right from the start but found it difficult to breach Lydeard’s defence. A change of formation proved to be the catalyst for the remainder of the game as captain Erin moved to a slightly deeper role.
Minehead immediately started to look more dangerous. Mabel burst through to finish brilliantly to put the visitors ahead. Jaz was next to score, unleashing a trademark strike to make it 2-0 at half time.
Once Minehead had weathered a fightback by Lydeard, they regained control and the next 20 minutes belonged to Mabel who hit a hat-trick with clinical finishing.
Quickly following Mabel on 18 goals this season was skipper Erin who made it 6-0 after picking up the ball deep before producing a splendid finish.
There was still time for Minehead to enter ‘Seventh Heaven’ as Evie bagged her tenth goal of the season.
This was Minehead’s sixth victory of the season, their other game having ended in a draw.
Minehead will be back in action on Saturday, December 7, when they play home to Huish Tigers (10.30).
