MINEHEAD stepped up to fourth in the Under 12 South section of the Somerset Girls Football League with a 5-0 away victory over bottom side Somerset Town Panthers in their latest match to extend their unbeaten run to six games.
The visitors made the perfect start and took the lead within three minutes of the kick off after pouncing on a loose ball inside the box which was fired into the top corner.
Minehead were in top gear and It was two before the 15 minute mark as they started finding their rhythm and were playing some really nice football.
The hosts struggled to retain any possession in the game due to Minehead’s pressure but their forwards did manage to break away and created a chance but the visitors defence got back well to concede a corner which came to nothing.
With Minehead firmly on top and continuing to play some lovely football, they scored two more well worked team goals to make it 4-0 at half time.
Somerton came out in the second half and to their credit gave everything they had which made things difficult for Minehead. With the game effectively already won Minehead were very professional in their task and didn’t let their opponents back into the game.
With the clock ticking and the the final whistle approaching the last kick of the game came and Minehead made it five with a smart turn and lob over the keeper.
In other games in the division, Watchet Town lost 4-1 at home to North Curry after trailing 2-0 at the interval, while Wellington Wildcats were 6-0 home winners over Huish Tigers.
Minehead now turn their attention to the league cup where on Saturday, February 1, they make the long trip to Wincanton who are lying fifth in the Northern section of the league.
