MINEHEAD Reserves went down 4-1 at home to Bridgwater Wolves in the Premier Division of the Taunton & District Saturday League, meaning they are still without a victory this season despite a spirited display.
Minehead went into this game in a positive frame of mind and for much of the first 60 minutes a victory looked very possible. The early exchanges were even with Minehead’s attacking partnership of Fin Haran and Scott Kivell looking lively and causing concern for the visitors defence.
The Blues midfield of Dan Vickers, Bart Kubaczewski and Oli Reaney were solid and provided a platform for the front two. Chances came and went but it was Wolves who took the lead on 30 minutes when an otherwise solid defence let the ball bounce around in the penalty area and saw the visitors take the lead.
A positive start to the second half saw Minehead camped in Wolves half and with the defensive unit of substitute Luke Heath, Myles Campbell-Farmer, Oli Jones and Harvey Lovell having less to do the signs were promising. It was from a promising attack that Haran broke away down the right and after some really good work slid the ball into Kivell, when he might have chosen to shoot, for him to take two touches and slide the ball home to bring the scores level.
It looked like Minehead would now move into victory but within 10 minutes Wolves went ahead against the run of play. With nothing to lose and chasing that elusive win Minehead went all out attack but arguably it left them open to counter attacks and this proved fatal with Wolves exposing the defence.
Despite some heroics from keeper Dan Pawson,Wolves added two more to give them a 4-1 score line which didn’t reflect the game.
