WELLINGTON A 5 MINEHEAD RESERVES 3
MINEHEAD Minehead Reserves travelled to Wellington in the hope of their first win of the season in the Premier Division of the Taunton & District Saturday Football League. They scored three goals which in any other game would have secured them at least a point but on this occasion chose to concede five and walk away with nothing.
Despite missing two or three players Minehead fielded a decent team and started the game well. Defender Andy Gubb struck a long ball out of defence in only the second minute and after Wellington conceded the corner it was Bart Kubaczewski who crossed for JJ Knight, again in midfield, who rose to thunder in a header and give Minehead optimism for the day ahead.
The midfield three of Oli Reaney, Dan Vickers and JJ Knight had more skill and determination than their opponents and they created chances which the whole team failed to take.
Jani Jasielczuk worked hard in an inside forward role but despite combining well with Andy Hall the team failed to turn their superiority into goals. It stayed 1-0 until eight minutes before the break when a mix up between the normally reliable Harvey Lovell and keeper Lewis Breillat ended with Wellington scoring into an empty net.
The second half saw another goal for Minehead with 52 minutes gone when Reaney calmly slotted home but before you could get a breather another was conceded. After only three minutes Wellington equalised once more from another rather soft shot.
The normally reliable defence including Charlie Disney, Gubb, Lovell and Myles Campbell-Farmer looked a little more vulnerable in the second half albeit Minehead were still the stronger team. Knight scored his second and Minehead’s third but once again Wellington equalised.
It was a crazy afternoon with Minehead continuing to create chances but Wellington seem to score from the only chances they had. Two more quick goals from the home team, took them out of sight and despite throwing on fresh legs through young Caleb Laney, on debut, Jayden Payton and the experienced Luke Heath the game had gone.
It was three points lost for the visitors which were there for the taking and they move on this coming weekend for a difficult home fixture against Staplegrove Reserves. Man of the Match: Charlie Disney.
Minehead Reserves: Lewis Breillat, Charlie Disney, Myles Campbell-Farmer, Harvey Lovell, Andy Gubb, JJ Knight, Dan Vickers, Oli Reaney, Jani Jasielczuk, Andy Hall, Bart Kubaczewski. Subs:- Caleb Laney, Jayden Payton, Luke Heath (all used).
Defeat means Minehead remain bottom of the table, still in search of that elusive victory with Wellington one place above them. At the other end of the table, Taunton side Galmington have a 15-point cushion over their closest rivals.
