MINEHEAD beat North Curry Youth 7-1 at Allerford to complete the season’s double over their rivals in Division Two of the Under 14 section in the Taunton & District Youth League.
Both teams took time to adjust to the swirling wind and rain, but Minehead had the best chance with an early effort from Charlie Bonar going over the bar. However, on 11 minutes against the run of play, the visitors took the lead. Minehead responded quickly when Jacob Fouracre scored with a looping header on 18 minutes.
Shortly after Aaron Parker made it 2-1 when he slotted home from close range. Just two minutes later Minehead extended their lead when Ollie Pravato benefited from Aaron Parker’s turnover of the ball high up the pitch to score with a neat finish.
Sam Taylor-Pitkin produced a perfectly-timed, goal-saving tackle, when Curry were through on goal and Harry Milton dealt with some tricky situations, being quick and brave off his line.
The first-half action wasn’t quite over and just before half-time, a goal-mouth scramble ended with Mackenzie Wrightson stealing in at the far post with a brave header to make it 4-1.
Minehead had the wind at their backs for the second half and started as brightly as they finished the first. A wonderful far-post delivery from Charlie Bonar saw Theo Arkell get on the scoresheet to make it 5-1. Rio Davis, Aaron Parker and Jacob Fouracre were a constant menace to the Curry defence, and the Minehead trio didn’t allow Curry a moment to dwell on the ball.
Rio became the sixth Minehead player on the score sheet when he scored a tap in. The match was drawing to a close, but Minehead weren’t finished. Casey Paxton rattled the crossbar and shortly afterwards rounded off the scoring when he latched on to a through ball and hammered home to make it 7-1.
