DESPITE the postponement of their game away to Stockwood Wanderers, Watchet Town remain 13th in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League going into Saturday's (Jan 18) away match against Uphill Castle.
The game against Stockwood was called off at ten in the morning of the match, just in time to prevent Watchet from travelling.
"We were just about set to go when the call came through,' said Nick Sully, a member of the Watchet club's management committee. "If it had been any later we would have been on our way.
"The postponement will not cause us any problems because we are well up with our fixtures."
Only one game was possible in the Premier Division because of the bad weather and this involved a top of the table clash between Staplegrove and Illminster which ended in a 3-1 away victory for the South Somerset side.
It means Ilminster, who have dropped only three points all season, now have a ten-point lead over the Taunton side who remain second, having also played two more games than their rivals.
Fry Club are in third spot, two points behind Staplegrove with three matches in hand.
Meanwhile, Watchet will be without long-serving utility player Aerron Clausen, who is unavailable, for the away game against Uphill Castle on Saturday.
Uphill are lying one place above Watchet in 12th spot, but have played four fewer matches than their rivals.
Meanwhile Minehead, who are fourth in Division One, will be looking to end a run of four successive draws when they play away to Burnham United on Saturday (Jan 18).
Burnham are in eighth spot with a record of played 17, won eight, drawn one and lost eight. They last played on Saturday, January 4, when they went down 2-1 away to Congresbury who have dropped only five points all season and are lying second in the table.
Minehead manager Craig Carr said: "We obviously want to start turning the ones (points) into threes. Recent results have been annoying because we have been creating plenty of chances but not taking them. And we have been giving away silly goals."
Carr has been pleased with the form of new striker Ian Bellinger who snapped up both goals in the 2-2 draw at home to Imperial. "He looked really sharp and I have been very pleased with him," added Carr who revealed he will have a squad of 20 players to choose from to play against Burnham. He has also not ruled out the signing of another new striker - and he could be available against Burnham if the paperwork is completed in time.
"I will be looking to freshen things up a bit - and to give one or two players a rest,” he added.
