WATCHET Town lost out late in the day again last Saturday when they went down 3-2 against Wells City Reserves in the Premier Division of the Uhslport Somerset League at the Memorial Ground.
For the second week running the Red & Blacks were unable to hold onto a lead as they conceded two goals in stoppage time to end up pointless again and in a precarious position just above the relegation zone with only a third of their league programme left to play.
There was no doubting that the visitors held the greater attacking threat throughout and after being caught offside on a number of occasions they had a header from a corner nodded off the line by Riley Willis to deny them the lead.
Somewhat against the run of play Watchet then went in front when the Wells keeper failed to deal with Olly Prescott's corner under pressure from the leaping Charley Clausen and Billy Jones was on hand to prod the ball over the line.
The home side had a great chance to increase their advantage when striker Jones had his feet whipped from under him inside the area only for Charley Clausen to put the ensuing spot kick too close to the keeper.
At the other end a smart stop from Vinnie Jones ensured Watchet went in at the interval with their noses still in front.
Wells provided an even bigger scoring threat at the start of the second half with two golden opportunities to level proceedings being sent wide of the target. Keeper Jones made a fine diving save low down to his left before somehow keeping out a point blank range shot which also ricocheted off Josh Aspey when a goal seemed certain.
The visitors' pressure eventually paid off midway through the half with a shot on the turn providing the equalizer. They were then awarded a penalty of their own for Aspey's challenge near the byeline, but their spot kick was also too straight and keeper Jones gratefully held onto the ball.
It seemed to be a potential turning point when two Watchet substitutes combined with Alfie Cox's through ball finding Alfie Lyons who clipped his shot perfectly over the advancing keeper into the empty net to make it 2-1
It proved to be in vain, however, as Wells exploited gaps in the home defence to change everything with two last-gasp goals. There was still time for Charley Clausen's header from Aspey's corner to hit the bar as more points went begging.
