MINEHEAD and West Somerset Seniors commenced the 2025 golfing year with the third round of the pairs 4bbb Trafalgar Tankard.

A fresh new year inspired a large field and a close contest where eight pairs finished within one point of each other. Taking the honours for this round on countback with 40 points were Willie Brown and Andy Giles, just ahead of Dave Oatridge and Roger Green. Third place on countback with 39 points were Steve Gay and Rob Poirrier.

Sadly later in the week the weather conditions took their toll regarding competitions before normality returned on Friday.

Despite the bitingly cold temperature which prevailed throughout the 666 format the competition attracted a full entry which inturn led to a keenly contested outcome. At the end of the very close competition two teams returned to the clubhouse with 69 points.

However after countback the winning team was Roger Green, Mark Ruttley and Nigel Trevelyan who edged in front of second placed Doug Hayhoe, Edward Frewin and Paul Thompson.

In third place with 66 points, three adrift of the two top teams were Dave Oatridge, Bob Arthington and Andrew Coward.

All of the Minehead Seniors agreed that whilet it may have been cold but it was good to be back!
