DESPITE the endeavours of the elements and the latest storm, Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club remained open which is a huge testament to the efforts of the greenkeeping staff and the preventative work and course management undertaken in recent years.

All members are appreciative every time they stand on the first tee and the quality of the course is never taken for granted. It was also encouraging to see so many visitors playing the course.

The first competition played by Minehead Seniors was a 1,2,3, in which nine teams participated in benign weather conditions.

Scoring nevertheless proved challenging. The winning team of Steve Gay, Kevin Garner and Nigel Trevelyan took the honours with a score of 66 points. In second place with 65 were Peter Young, Bob Arthington and Trevor Stephens. Third were Andy Giles, Adrian Ryan and Tim Tennant with 63 points.

On Friday 10 teams took part in a Texas Scramble which was won by Martin Hole, Tony Connolly and Edward Frewin achieving the winning nett score of 61. Second with nett 62 were Dave Walmsley, Malcolm Bruce and Nigel Trevelyan while third on count back with 63 were Willie Brown, Rob Poirrier and Pat Jones ahead of Andy Giles, Mike Kelly and Fraser Lawrence.
