MINEHEAD and West Somerset Golf Club has staged the Men’s Championship over 36 holes..

Unfortunately, in view of the very heavy overnight rain, the commencement of the competition on Saturday morning had to be delayed.

The Championship, a strokeplay format took no prisoners under the adverse conditions; the leader at the halfway stage with a gross 73 was Will Paton (-3), followed by Archie Walsh (-1) with 78.

Conditions on Sunday brought their own challenges with intermittent squalls and strong winds.

Will Paton once again found the formula, returning a gross 74 to achieve a well-deserved victory (73 + 74 =147) to take the title of Mens Club Champion by five shots. His second round included birdies on the 8th and 15th to go with four birdies in round one.

Runner up and recording the best second round gross score on the day with a score of (79 + 73 = 152) was Glenn Ross (3). In third position with a total of (79 + 77 = 156) was Daniel Ross (5) ahead of Archie Walsh (-1) with (78 + 78 = 156).

Winner of the best nett competition (75 + 68 = 143) was Ian Gover (19), an excellent performance which included a birdie at the par 3, 14th and an eagle 2 on the par 4, 15th.
