MINEHEAD Barbarians lst XV will have joint captains this coming rugby season - full back Jacob Gower and back rower George Buckingham will undergo the joint roles.

They have taken over from Joel Lynch who skippered the side during the 23-.24 season when Minehead finished sixth in Counties Two Somerset.

Head coach Mick Orton has announced there will be no pre-season games. He explained: “There’s not much point because we would have so many players unavailable - either working, on holiday or playing cricket.”

Minehead kick off the new season with an away match against Nailsea & Backwell on Saturday, September 7. Their first home fixture will be against Oldfield Old Boys the following Saturday.

Orton added: ”I would like to think we could push for promotion this season, as well as integrate some of younger players. We have some good youngsters.

“I would also like to take our good home form of last season away with us this winter."

Minehead Barbarians 2nd XV will again be skippered by Matt Holman, with Dylan Cherry and Elliot Floyd as joint vice-captains.

The Seconds begin the season with a home game against Yeovil in Somerset Four South on Saturday, September 7.

The Babas train on Tuesdays and Thursday (7p.m.) and everyone is welcome.
