MINEHEAD Barbarians will be chasing their fourth rugby win of the season when they play away to Wells in Counties Two Somerset this coming weekend.
The Babas, currently lying fourth in the table and six points behind the leaders Midsomer Norton, have had a fortnight’s break since winning 24-20 at home to Avon. It was their third successive win, having lost 31-23 away to Nailsea and Backwell on the opening day of the season.
“It has been a good start,” said Babas’ head coach Mick Orton. “Obviously you always want better. But I’m happy with the way things have gone.”
Meanwhile, the Babas’ squad includes hooker Greg Richards who has not played for about three seasons and ‘wants to get back into rugby.’ No 9 Will Hawker is also available after missing the game against Avon.
“Availability is always the key with away matches,” added Orton who is in his second spell as head coach with the West Somerset club. “Players sometimes have to commit themselves to being away for the entire day and that can be difficult if they’re got young families. And we also have the problem with holidays and players working.”
Minehead Barbarians 2nd XV are home to Martock.
