The Seniors at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club played a Pinehurst Greensomes on Wednesday of last week.

With little in the forecast to shed an advantage on those teeing off early or late; this competition was down fairly and squarely onto the performance of the pairings and they didn’t disappoint .

Three pairs tied with 38 points and the top duos all fell within two points of each other.

In first place on countback were Doug Hayhoe and Willie Brown, the runners up slot was taken by Mark Swallow and Kevin Garner while third place was claimed by Ash Stockley and Roger Green.

On Friday the Seniors played a Waltz competition which was clearly to the liking of the winning team of Andy Giles, Paul Thompson and Frazer Lawrence who were clearly in rhythm with each other and scored an excellent 71 points.

Second place in the competition went to Doug Hayhoe, Tiny Welford and Sandy Lyons with 69 points, while Ash Stockley, W John Perkins and Tony Connolly were third with 68.

With the changing of the clocks at the weekend, it’s a timely reminder that winter golf is now officially upon us and that we are swapping the warmth of the sun on our backs for the mists on the fairway.
