TIVERTON Foxhounds’ big point to point at Chipley Park, near Milverton, washed out towards the end of last month, goes ahead on Saturday, February 8 (first race 12 noon).
“The course is looking fine despite more rain recently,” said secretary Liz Dorse. “We expect the going to be ‘good to soft.’
“Because the event is taking place within a fortnight of the previous meeting being postponed, we can run the same race card with the same entries. Everything stays the same. Obviously this cuts down costs because we took a big financial hit when we had to call off last month’s event which will run into thousands of pounds. There will again be seven races with nearly 100 entries.
“Of course, we are so dependent on the weather, but we understand it will be dry - with possible showers
"There was a point to point meeting in Dorset over the weekend. The weather was fine and it attracted a good crowd.
Tickets (cash only) on the gate at £15pp. Racecards £3 or two for £5. Cash bar and hot food available. It’s a great viewing course with gates opening at 9.30p.m. Postcode TA21 OQU.
The meeting at Chipley Park last month had to be called off only half an hour before the intended start
“We left it until the very last moment but in the end we had no choice,” added the secretary. “The course was flooded. The wind died down but we didn’t expect so much rain. It just seemed to get worse and there was nothing in the end we could do but call it off. It was so disappointing.
“Fortunately, we can race on Saturday and hopefully the meeting will attract a big crowd and everyone will enjoy themselves."
