MINEHEAD Falcons, top of Division One in the Under 12 section of the Taunton & District Youth Football League, stormed into the second round of the KO Cup with a 7-0 home win over Bridgwater Wolves.
Minehead made a really positive start and dominated the possession throughout the opening quarter of an hour.
Seb Matcham and Roman Davis came close on several occasions but the Wolves goalkeeper made some fantastic saves keeping the match scoreless. However, after fifteen minutes Falcons got their reward through a great pass from Barney Langdon playing into Charlie Ely who stroked home the ball giving Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Following this the Minehead team seemed to settle and their passing from back to front was a pleasure to watch and kept the opposition chasing their heels. This pressure led to numerous corners and finally it culminated in a second for the Falcons.
A great in swinging corner and a high leap from Olly Hill gave him his first goal, and Minehead’s second of the match.
Soon after there was a wonderful flowing move starting with Jack Lomax showing some neat distribution to Frankie Cox who passed it on to Jake Ely down the left side. He cleverly passed it through to Charlie Ely and Seb Matcham who set up Roman Davis to tuck it away superbly, making it 3-0.
The opposition tried to break away and catch the home defence out, playing the ball over the top, but a double save from keeper Jack Lomax kept Minehead’s clean sheet.
The strength and challenges of the defensive display through Oscar Cox and George Gardener made it almost impossible for the opposition to break through as the game developed.
The second half saw the Falcons kicking down the hill, which gave them greater control and further dominance. This was demonstrated through a smartly taken brace from Olly Hill, one of which was a thunderbolt which almost broke the net!
Following this a sharp bit of control and forward thinking from Harry Parfitt who was making his debut, set up Charlie Ely for his second of the morning.
The Falcons controlled the remaining part of the game with another couple of attempts from Jake Ely and Roman Davis going narrowly wide. Then a foul on Seb Matcham just outside the box gave Frankie Cox the chance to slot home a well-placed free kick making the final score 7-0 to the hosts in the end.
Despite Harry Parfitt putting in an impressive debut performance, and a great central midfield display by Barney Langdon, Frankie Cox won player of the match for his tackling, work rate and superb free kick.
Minehead will be pleased with their overall display as they chase a league and cup double.
