MINEHEAD Tennis club’s mixed C team played their first match of the season against Elms C team in the fourth division of the West Somerset Tennis League.
The ladies pairing of Yung Sook Bradley and Corinne Rees won against Jane Squire and Pauline Phillips 6-2, 6-1. Phil Bastin and Andy Fay enjoyed a very close men’s doubles first set, but then lost 5-7, 1-6. Phil and Yung-Sook, playing first pair in the mixed, were leading 4-1 in the first set, but then lost 5-7, 1-6.
Andy and Corinne, playing Elms’ second couple, also took the lead in the first set, but went on to lose 5-7, 5-7. Elms won the match 6 sets to 2 and gained an extra point for winning the match.
Anybody who is interested in playing tennis is welcome to come along to the club on Saturday afternoons to join in with Rusty Rackets. The cost is £2.50 and membership is not necessary. Play starts at 2pm.
Rusty Rackets provides a great platform to play tennis. And it is a great way to learn to play the game and to socialise in a friendly club atmosphere.
