MINEHEAD Tennis Club’s mixed C team played at home against Wiveliscombe B in the fourth division of the West Somerset Tennis League.
Paul and Corinne Rees, playing first pair in the mixed against Rob Webley and Rachael Shortland, won the first set 6-2, but lost the second 6-1 . A championship tie break was played won by Wiveliscombe 10-7. Bob Storey and Yung Sook Bradley played in a long closely fought game against Eddie East and Sally Newberry in hot sun to narrowly lose 6-4, 7-5.
Minehead lost the men’s doubles 6-3, 6-3. The ladies doubles was decided by a championship tie break and Wiveliscombe eventually won 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.
At the end of the morning the score in sets was Minehead 2, Wiveliscombe 8 . Wiveliscombe gained an extra point for winning the match 9-2.
Anybody who is interested in playing tennis is welcome to come along to the club on Saturday afternoons to join in with Rusty Rackets. The cost is £2.50 and membership is not necessary. Play starts at 2 pm.
Rusty Rackets provides a great platform to play tennis and it is a great way to learn to play the game and socialize in a friendly club atmosphere.
