MINEHEAD Barbarians RFC Under 11s headed up to Weston to kick off their season. Travelling with a smaller squad they combined with Weston to face an experienced Hornets’ team.

The Barbarians squad featured several debutants for both but this didn’t detract from the effort the team put in. Abbey Horne’s tenacity was something to behold, never backing down from a tackle big or small, debutant Jasper Cox hitting rucks with confidence alongside Jack Westwood who again was a real asset in attack and defence.

Darcy Rees made a first half break, beating two defenders dashing into the opponents’ 22 only to be tackled into touch. The consistent attitude at training is paying off and Eddie Sandham vocals and management is shining through.

The team should be praised on how they welcomed their new Weston teammates into the Barbarians squad. This was exemplified by Gladiator of the day Henry Perry who led with experience and determination for all to follow. His work rate, attack and tackling was outstanding throughout.

Gladiator of the week: Henry Perry, Barbarian of the week: Darcy Rees. Under 11s team training is 5:30-6:30 on a Thursday and matches and training take place on Sunday from 10:30, so why not go along and join in.
