THE opening day of the season saw Minehead Under 15s host North Curry at Irnham Road - a team that they hadn't met for a couple of seasons.
Minehead started the game well and with just five minutes on the clock a clearance from captain Reiss Harrison found lightning fast Charlie who ran through and gave the Blues the lead.
Dominating in the midfield with some pinpoint passing it wasn’t long before Logan saw his effort go just wide.
With a quarter of the game played MInehead made the first change and introduced Joey whose pace out on the flank applied more pressure.
Logan was controlling the centre of the park and was able to spray balls out wide for Elliot and Joey to take full advantage of- it was just unfortunate there was no end result. With 25 minutes gone the back line of Reiss, vice captain Jake, Lennon and Edward were caught off guard when Curry levelled,
This seemed to spur the Blues up a level and a ball from Jake to Logan saw him beat three players before giving Minehead the lead once more making it 2-1 at the break.
Minehead didn’t quite start the second half as they did the first and it took a little while to get going. North Curry took full advantage of this fact and with a long ball over the top beat keeper Ellis to equalise, 2-2.
Minehead then came alive and responded well when Charlie broke free to fire home and regain the lead. Confidence in the team was building and a mistake by the North Curry defence a few minutes later was pounced on by George H who was looking dangerous, and made no mistake in finding the back of the net to make it 4-2. MInehead were now settled and looked comfortable on the ball, they were playing the ball around on the floor and were pressing well.
They were pressurising the North Curry keeper with efforts from Elliot, Harley and Lennon but credit to their keeper who pulled off some fantastic saves.
With only five minutes to play North Curry looked like they were sure to pull one back but a superb save from Ellis kept them out.
Minehead’s central midfielder Harley picked up the ball in the centre of the park and played a perfect through ball to Charlie who had the final attack of the game and made it 5-2 and claimed his hat-trick!
This was a great way for the Blues to start the new season and confidence is high going into their next match. The Man of the Match was Logan
