MINEHEAD Hockey Club men’s pain continued as they fell to a strong ECV Hornets side last weekend.
Despite taking a strong side, the Hornets proved too much for the Seasiders who fell to a tough 5-0 defeat. With just two matches to go and six points adrift at the foot of the table, two big wins will be needed to overtake University of Exeter in 11th position.
The second XI had a good home win against Tiverton who fielded a very young and energetic side. The new attack pairing of Clegg and Taylor yet again bore fruit, with Glenmore Bakery Man of the Match Taylor creating mayhem all round the D, and netting three, Clegg had two, and trademark Covey strike from the top of the D saw a comfortable lead, which despite a breakaway goal in each half was cushion enough to see all three points secured.
The Third XI hosted Mid-Somerset and fell to a frustrating 2-0 defeat in a match that all players agreed that they never really clicked in. Mid’s skilful centre half commanded the game, and created a lucky tap-in for their first, and despite sustained pressure from Paul Thomas pushing further up the park than usual and Fewings and Moody, the goals never came..
