MINEHEAD Hockey Club’s 2nd XI had the unusual privilege of hosting their first team, as both sides are playing in the same league for the first time in decades.

Play was even for the opening 15 minutes but the lst XI started to fine gaps and slotted home four goals before half-time.

The second half showed a glimmer of hope for the seconds as Simon Strong scored from the top of the D to pull one back.

As the game progressed the seconds’ fitness began to fade and they eventually conceded six more goals as they slid to a 10-1 defeat.

However, the future looks bright for the club with a number of youngsters playing in the match and stepping up well against the strongest opposition they will face this season.

Minehead 3rds played at home against Weston super Mare and were unlucky to concede in the first quarter. However, chances went begging as that final touch eluded the attacking players time after time. Man of the Match Jack Petit was unlucky not to score an equaliser in the final minute.

Post-match teas were held at Minehead Cricket Club clubhouse adjacent to the pitch, and both home and visiting teams enjoyed an afternoon of socialising.
