Tiverton took the honours in this Western Counties league match played on a muddy recreation ground at Wiveliscombe, with conditions deteriorating as the game progressed.
The visitors have been securing some good results over recent weeks, lifting them to fourth in the table as Wiveliscombe had lost their last three games.
Tiverton opened the scoring after making good ground using their very effective driving maul down the Wivey slope, Prop Rees Lyons touching down.
Tiverton continued to put the home team under pressure, but Wiveliscombe pulled level when a threes move by the visitors broke down and Centre Sam Gibbs pounced on a wayward pass to sprint 60 yards to level the score at 5-5.
Tiverton opened up a gap of 12 points leading up to half time both results of driving mauls, fly half Dave Harris and back rower Pete Westcott adding a try each, Scrum half Ed Ryder added one conversion. At half time, the score stood at 5 - 17.
Wiveliscombe raised their game in the second half and spent good periods in Tiverton’s half but the visitors’ defence held firm, especially when Wivey created opportunities close to Tiverton’s try line.
A Richard Baker try, finding a rare hole in the visitors’ defence secured the loosing bonus for the home team.
Wiveliscombe remain in eighth position in the Western Counties League with one game remaining. Full time score was 10 - 17.

Wiveliscombe travelled to Wells, having struggled to put a team together - but to their credit they fulfilled the fixture and were rewarded with an away victory.
They should now remain in the Somerset three South league for next season.
Their tries in this match came from Ashley Scott, Josh White and Jamie Wills. Tom Stevens added one conversion. FT. 10pts 17pts.

Wiveliscombe, who are celebrating their 150th anniversary played a veterans v combination XV prior to the 1st XV league match. More than 40 plus players turned out to celebrate this special occasion.
