AS the external competition season draws to a close for the Ladies Section of Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club, players have been blessed with generally good weather.

The Bronze knockout (for those with handicap 20 and over), which ran over the summer, was concluded with Pat Lucas beating Corinne Rees in the final.

The Dunster and Floyd Trophies were competed for. This is strokeplay and the Dunster Trophy (for lower handicappers) was won by Kym Francis-Hill with an impressive score of gross 85. The Floyd trophy (for higher handicappers) was won by Jennifer James with a nett 78.

Minehead enjoyed a friendly match against Oake Manor with format of ‘Doubles matchplay’ and were victorious with a very friendly welcome from the ladies there. Minehead look forward to welcoming them to their own course next year.

Minehead Ladies also hosted the last Open in Somerset of the season where ladies from other clubs can come and play. The weather was glorious sunshine and a gentle easterly breeze. Eleven teams of three participated with the two best scores to count on each hole.

A home team of Deano Carlin (club champion), Pat Lucas (vice-captain) and Ruth Ball won with a score well ahead of any rivals.
