PORLOCK Ladies were beaten 3-1 away by re-formed Staplegrove in Division Three South of the Somerset Women’s Football League.
Both sides fielded strong squads and the first half proved to be fairly even. Porlock’s greatest threat came from playing simple football with good attacks down the wing.
At other times it was more of a ping-pong match with few clear-cut chances. Both goalkeepers were effective at patrolling their box and both sides put shots over the bar.
With just a few minutes left before half-time, Staplegrove attacked down the right wing. A perfectly placed cross resulted in a composed finish.
At half-time Porlock changed goalkeepers and formation. However Staplegrove were far more dominant and Porlock’s defenders had to battle to keep them at bay. Grove went into a 2-0 lead when they scored from a corner
.As usual, Porlock kept looking for opportunities and one came thanks to another flying break down the wing from Kayleigh who was once again on the receiving end of a foul. Up stepped Hannah (Porlock's first half goalie), who had replaced her twin Lauren in defence mid-way through the second half and smacked the ball from at least 35 yards to pull a goal back.
Unfortunately, Porlock conceded a scrappy third goal.
