PORLOCK Reserves made the trip up the A358 to Castle School in Taunton to host Dunwear United Reserves in the Seward Cup - and won an exciting tie following a penalty shootout.

Both teams started strongly but it was Porlock’s man in form Ollie Morris who slotted home for his seventh in two games,

Dunwear showed their resilience and pounced on a defensive mix up to level the scores after 25 minutes.

Porlock were enjoying large periods of possession and made it count again when Morris doubled his account to put his side ahead.

The West Somerset side continued to test the Dunwear goalkeeper  and it was only a matter of time before Porlock extended their lead which the did when Ollie Heathfield nodded home from inside the six yard box to make it 3-1 at the interval.

Manager James Griffiths brought on Ryan Parsons to freshen up the backline, which seemed to work as Dunwear struggled to break through the Porlock defence.

However in the 75th minute  some smart thinking from the Dunwear right back saw him take a quick free kick allowing his striker to run through unchallenged and slot the ball past Keeper Joe Ferris to make the last quarter of an hour a bit more exciting.

Griffiths again made another change in the back line to freshen up and try and ride out the final moments of the match. However this wasn’t to be, as substitute Kevin Sparks saw red 10 minutes later and Porlock had to defend a one goal lead for five minutes with only ten men.

Dunwear attacked and attacked and finally they reaped the rewards as a ball over the top yet again caused issues for the Porlock back line and the striker was brought down on the 18 yard line and a penalty was awarded.

The Dunwear player stepped up and took the penalty and although the Porlock keeper Joe Ferris guessed the right way he was unable to gather the rebound and the opposition player passed the ball into an empty net.

Porlock had one more opportunity to seal the win in the 90 minutes. However a free kick from inside the Dunwear area was cleared up field and the final whistle was blown.

The match then went to penalties and Joe Ferris claimed two saves in the shoot out. The Porlock’s penalty takers- Chris Barrett, Ollie Morris, Branden Simsek and Cody Truscott all slotted home.

The Porlock Reserves Man of the Match was shared between Joe Ferris and Karl Middleton-Smith
