MINEHEAD Ladies hosted Isca 3’s in their first hockey game in Sedgemoor Division 1 - having been promoted last season.

Early pressure from Minehead earned a short corner inside five minutes but was to no avail. Both sides were evenly matched with opportunities for both throughout the first half.

Isca trickled the ball over the line to take the lead at the end of the half. A quick Isca goal at the start of the second half put the pressure on Minehead.

The hosts responded with a slick move up to centre forward Hannah Sparks who had time to find the bottom corner of the goal.

More end to end running ensued and with both teams not being match-fit yet, gaps opened up. Isca took advantage of two short corners with well-drilled routines making the final score 4-1 to the visitors.

The Dessert Club’s joint player of the match went to Charlotte and Harriet for solid defensive performances.

Minehead Ladies: Jan Weetch, Tracey Bailey, Jess Koppa, Charlotte Hirons, Harriet Mitchell, Amy Tisshaw, Sarah Hayes, Gemma Chilcott, Izzy Burns, Kate Lancaster, Denise Lancaster, Zoey Cape, Morgan Cooper, Hannah Sparks.

Next weekend Minehead are away to Honiton Hornets and the next home match on 12th October is against Exeter 4 at 10.30am.
