MINEHEAD Barbarians’ annual Past Players Day attracted a big crowd and with over 45 players available this was the best for many years,
The first half was one-sided with the Presidents XV leading 26-0 at the break. A few player changes made it much closer , as the Vice Chairman’s XV ran in a few tries to draw the half 19-19.
However the President’s XV ran out the winners 45-19. Try scorers for the President’s XV were Bert-Jayne Webber(3), Ben White, Ben Allerton and Johan Van Wyk (2) , while the Vice Chairman’s tries came from Ryan Ayres, Elliot Floyd, and new signing Nick from the gym!
The wide range in ages playing was great to see and no doubt the youngsters learnt a few dark arts from the more experienced players.
The third half in the bar was most enjoyable with overdue catch ups and old stories re-told, before the night finished off with live music from Toby Hafter-Smith.
James Baker, the Barbarians Chairman, said: “This was another special event and thanks go to President Colin Howells, Vice Chairman Matt Holman, Kyle Roberts and Ben White for putting the teams together and making it such a great day. The club would like to thank everyone who attended.”.
