MINEHEAD Barbarians RFC Under 13s travelled over the county border into North Devon to play against South Molton - and came away with a deserved victory.
With a full squad of more than 20, the Barbarians got off to a flying start and within two minutes of the kick off Arthur Gel scored the visitors’ first try.
At the other end, the Minehead defence was strong and the hosts were struggling to get any possession. With the visitors very much on top it wasn’t long before Arthur Gel went over for his and the team’s second try.
There was some great team play from Minehead as they passed the ball really well under the difficult conditions. Minehead never really looked like conceding and were too strong for the home side with some real strong defence. It wasn’t long before Minehead scored again, this time it was Ed White who crossed the line to add another to his great season’s tally.
South Molton looked drained and conceded another with Charlie Tucker going over and at the half time break Minehead led four tries to nil. The home team regrouped and came out much stronger in the second half and did manage a try. In the second half Minehead conceded a few penalties, but they played well and scored another try, this time from Zak Hughes which was a great team effort.
South Molton did fight back towards the end but unfortunately they were denied another try by a knock on just before the final whistle, making the final score 5-1 to Minehead. This was a great team performance, and all of the Minehead team can hold their heads high.
The Barbarian of the match was Louie Sparks with some great runs gaining some great metres, while the Gladiator of the match was Harry Tucker for his relentless tackling and outstanding effort.
