MINEHEAD Barbarians’ Under 16s gained a 32-29 home win over their North Petherton counterparts, putting on an exciting show for their supporters..

Both teams looked to attack whenever possible, and it was Minehead who were first on the scoreboard. Lobb won the line-out, Cudmore and James both carried hard in midfield, then White drove forward before Browne darted over in the corner.

North Petherton struck back when a forward crashed over after good handling in their backs. Then the advantage swung back to the home team when James drove low through a tackle to score.

A White try, as he finished off some fine play by the pack, was followed up by Cudmore scoring. A hard chase of a long kick down-field won a scrum to the Barbarians. Browne gave a clever reverse-pass to Cudmore as he broke back and dived over.

Minehead took a lead into the second half, but knew that the visitors still had a lot to give, and there was no room for complacency.

The first score of the second period was special. A surprise lineout take by Browne sent White free on a front peel; he drew the defender and Reeder crashed over. Again the visitors hit back, taking advantage of pressure on the Minehead line, a clever inside pass put their player over to score. Then a scything break out of their half led to further try by North Petherton to raise their hopes.

Fine breaks by White, and then Lobb gave a chance, and Lock stormed through to score from 30 metres out.

Another try by the visitors led to tense last minutes before Minehead were able to celebrate.

This was a great team effort by Minehead with Lock having his best game of the season, but the Players of the day were second rows, Tom Krawczyk and Jamie Male.
