WIVELISCOMBE will be chasing their 13th rugby victory of the season when they play away to Penryn in Counties One Western West on Saturday, April 5.

They will also be looking to complete the season’s double over the Cornish side, having won 34-7 on their own patch on the opening day of the 2024-25 season.

Wiveliscombe have been particularly impressive at home this winter, and have won their last three matches in succession at The Rec, beating Bideford 52-20, Redruth 36-11 and Bude 63-10.

They go into Saturday’s fixture two points behind Redruth 2nd XV, who are lying fifth and have completed their fixtures.

“We have had a very good season under Mark Chatterton who took over as coach at the beginning of the season,” said the Wiveliscombe club’s correspondent Roger Bellamy. “But it is always difficult for some of the long away trips - you can never field a full-strength side. It can be a long day and there are always one of two players who cannot make it.

“Of course, the 2nd XV have also done really well and have won their division. We have some good lads coming on which can only been good for the future of the club.”
