WIVELISCOMBE remain fifth in Western Counties West after beating a youthful Tavistock side 48-17 away.

Tavistock are having a difficult season and sit one place off the bottom. Tavistock won the toss and opted to play down the slope in the first half and they competed well enough with their forwards always in the game.

However, their young backs struggled to contain Wiveliscombe’s threes who looked dangerous throughout the game and the visitors were in control at halftime, leading 22-8.

Wiveliscombe were in control for most of the second half and doubled teirr lead without producing theirer best form and several scoring opportunities were missed.

Points for the home team came from hooker Hammey Kerswell and centre Ethan Lammerton. Freddie Fuller converted one and added a penalty.

Flyhalf Charlie Sharland and winger Will Ruell scored two tries each for Wivey, while scrum half Richard Baker, centre Will Thorne and flanker Dan Smythe Moore were among Wiveliscombe’s other try scorers

Fixtures for January 11: Wiveliscombe 1st XV v St Ives 1st XV (home) League, Wiveliscombe 2nd XV v Hornets (away).

Wiveliscombe Ladies’ loca derby match at neighbours Wellington on Sunday, January 5, was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch following heavy rain overnight, which was a disappointment for both clubs.
