SOMERSET'S 21 year old seamer Sonny Baker will be leaving the club at the end of this season when his contract expires to join Hampshire.
Baker, who hails from Torquay where he started his cricketing caree,r got a scholarship to King’s College in Taunton and after playing through the Devon age groups he joined the Somerset Academy in 2020.
He made his Somerset Second XI debut in 2019 and his Devon National Counties debut in 2020.
The following summer Baker made his Somerset List ‘A’ debut following which he signed a two-year professional contract.
Baker represented England U19s v West Indies and Sri Lanka in autumn 2021 and he was then selected for the U19 World Cup in the Caribbean in early 2022 but injury prevented him from playing.
The injury curtailed Sonny’s 2022 season but he claimed his first five wicket haul in the Royal London Cup versus Durham.
Since then he has made 11 more appearances for the club, taking 19 wickets, although only one of those matches has been during this campaign in the T20 Blast. In addition Baker played for Southern Brave during the 2022 Hundred competition.
