MONDAY evening saw Wellington Squash and Racketball Club’s first team play their nearest rivals Weston at home in Division Two of the Somerset Autumn Squash League.

Wellington needed a good win as Weston held a match in hand against the table's bottom team. Wellington were without Andrew Carpenter who would have given the team the strongest possible side for the night.

However, he had a shoulder injury and could not play.Unfortunately Mike Broom and Tom Hendy at 4 and 5 could not pull off a win between them which would have secured the extra bonus points.

Natalie Lawrence at 1 won 15/12, 15/12, 15/12. James Wilkie at 2 lost 15/11, 13/15, 12/15, 11/15. Barry Bartram at 3 won 15/8, 13/15, 10/15, 15/7, 16/14. Mike Broom at 4 lost 9/15, 9/15, 5/15. Tom Hendy at 5 lost 12/15, 11/15, 0/15.The final result was Wellington 7 Weston 14.

Wellington are still top of the division but only clear by 2 points and Weston are almost certainly going to win the division with the match in hand.

Next week Wellington 1 are away at Street and Wellington 2 are at home against Kings.
