A CENTURY from Andrew Stevens was the highlight of Minehead Second XI’s victory over Cheddar in Somerset Cricket League Division Three on Saturday afternoon.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Minehead openers Stevens, who is 58, and 18 year old Jonah Hopkin,s dominated the innings, the junior partner departing for 60 while senior partner was out for exactly 100, making him probably the oldest centurion for Minehead.
Lower in the order Ellis Taylor hit 23 as Minehead closed on 236 for six from their 40 overs.
When Cheddar replied Gary Bennett removed one of their openers without a run on the board, after which the other top order batter Will Creaser went onto make 96 with 13 fours and a six before he was caught and bowled by Anan Rajan.
During the course of his innings the opener added 74 with Jimmy Clark for the fifth wicket and 61 for the sixth before with David Gooch who scored 28, before he was the seventh wicket to fall with the total on 187.
Liam Johnson made 19 before he was removed by Lewis Goodrum before eventually Cheddar ended on 225 for nine, giving Minehead Seconds an exciting victory by 11 runs.
Pick of the bowlers was Bennett with four for 25.
