WATCHET Ladies played their first ever game in Somerset County Women’s League Division 3 when they hosted Combe St Nicholas.
Having never played a game before as a team, they knew it would be a challenge, but they were more than up for it and playing in front of a supportive crowd gave them the confidence they needed.
The nerves were jangling but with the support of each other and the coaches, the game kicked off and they soon settled down to a 10 a side game with only one sub for Watchet while Combe had several.
Combe were held at bay for a while before their striker found the back of the net and despite Watchet playing some good link up play from defence, getting the ball up the pitch they could not score, while at the other end the visitors scored four more to lead 0-5 at the break.
Watchet came out fighting in the second half, with better communication, more confidence, but most importantly they had fun and kept their heads up and despite losing 0-7 they will have gained a lot from their first game. Woman of the match was awarded to Honey Potter. This weekend Watchet Ladies are away to Penmill Reserves in Yeovil.
