A MUCH changed Watchet line-up saw them visit Clevedon United last Saturday where they picked up a point from a creditable 1-1 draw in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.

Missing no fewer than eight players from their midweek squad at Wells the visitors went away with only the one substitute and included three players who had not played any football to date this term.

From the outset Watchet worked hard all-round to frustrate their hosts and it was a little while before Charley Clausen was called into any meaningful action with a smart stop. A quick throw from Billy Jones sent Jari High into the home area, but he was  unable to force the ball past the keeper.

Clevedon were enjoying more possession while the visitors worked hard to limit their opportunities with some players performing diligently out of position for the team cause. Nathan Collins had the ball in the home net only for it to be ruled out for a handling offence before half-time arrived with the scoresheet blank.

Content to be level at the interval Watchet then had the bonus of breaking the deadlock on the resumption when a low drive from outside the box by Riley Willis eluded the keeper as it found the bottom corner of the net.

Watchet's back four remained solid throughout with those in front of them getting behind the ball when necessary and when they were pierced Charley Clausen dived full length to keep one shot away from his post before tipping a fierce drive from 12 yards over the top.

Despite inevitably tiring in some areas the visitors looked dangerous on the break and Collins tried his luck with a firm drive from 25 yards before Alfie Cox used his pace to break clear only for the keeper to produce a fine save low down to his left.

With Clevedon trying hard to ramp up the pressure in their search for an equalizer less than 10 minutes were left when the only blemish on his deputy keeper performances so far saw Clausen spill an inswinging corner from the left which ultimately gave the home side a share of the spoils as it dropped over the goalline.

Watchet Town: Charley Clausen, Aerron Clausen, Brandon Walsh, Eben Harding, Lewis Rogers, Billy Jones, Riley Willis, Lewis Ahmet, Jari High, Nathan Collins, Alfie Cox. Sub: Louis Scatchard (used). Watchet's A & P Farmer man of the match was Brandon Walsh.

Elsewhere Nailsea United are the early leaders of the Premier Division after winning their opening four matches, opening up a three-point lead at the top.  They beat Worle 3-0 away last Saturday and followed this with a 3-1 home victory over Yatton & Cleeve United on Tuesday night.
