WATCHET Town will be looking to play back in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League when they meet Bishops Sutton away in their opening game of the season on Saturday, August 3.

Bishops Sutton endured one of the worst seasons of any senior club last winter, finishing bottom of the Toolstation League’s first division without one single victory in 42 games. They drew three games to finish with three points and a goals difference of -164.

“We will not be taking any notice of that record.” said Nick Sully, one of Watchet’s three-man management committee. “I’m afraid we won’t be able to field a full-strength side.

“Unfortunately, our captain Eben Harding will be missing and we’re struggling to field a recognised goalkeeper. Vinny Jones (cracked ribs) and Aaron Deeks (dislocated shoulder), who have played in goal in recent friendlies, are ruled out through injury. We’re working on the situation.”

Watchet won promotion at the end of last season, finishing runners-up to Staplegrove, who beat them 3-1 in a crucial game at the end of April, ending a 15-match unbeaten run by the seasiders. ..

Watchet have another league match on Tuesday when they play away to Wells City Reserves when Harding will be available.
