WATCHET Town face another tough away game today (Sat) when they play Ashton & Backwell United in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League.
Watchet gained a useful point last weekend when they drew 1-1 away with Peasedown Miners Welfare despite losing three players during the game through injury - Josh Aspey, Aerron Clausen and Ali Harrison.
“I was pleased with the point which I think we deserved,” said the Watchet club’s spokesman Nick Sully. “We kept going despite going behind.
“The side is on an unbeaten run and the spirit within the team is very good.”
Watchet will be looking to avenge a 3-2 home loss to Ashton earlier this season when the visitors won with a late penalty. Since then Watchet have improved although they slipped one place - to third - after dropping two points at Peasedown.
Watchet will be hoping that all three players hurt at Peasedown will be available against Ashton who are lying seventh in the table, just off the pace of the leading sides.
Meanwhile Minehead, who drew 1-1 at home with lowly Combe St Nicholas last weekend - also in the first division - will be looking for a better display when Peasedown MW visit Irnham Road (3p.m,). The Peasedown outfit are lying fourth in the table but have games in hand on all the teams above them.
Elsewhere Staplegrove, who are six points clear of the field after beating Yatton & Cleeve last weekend, are home to 12th placed Westfield.
In the Premier Division of the Taunton Saturday League, leaders Minehead Reserves are away to Stogursey who are lying fifth, while Porlock visit Wembdon in the League KO Cup.
Exmoor Rangers are home to Norton Fitzwarrenn Division One, having won 2-1 at bottom club Old Inn 98 last weekend.
In Division Two, Minehead Colts play Alcombe Rovers in the Match of the Day at Dunster.
Porlock Ladies face what will surely be their toughest match of the season when they play away to leaders Yeovil Town Development in Division Two South of the Somerset Women’s League. Yeovil have lost only one match this season.
