WATCHET Under 12s maintained their unbeaten start to the season after a dominant display saw them run out 4-0 winners against Ruishton   .

Watchet started moving the ball around from the kick off finding some good spaces high up the pitch. On 10 minutes they took the lead after Merek picked the ball up on the half way line before passing to Freddy who slid the ball to Oakley who calmly slotted home. Watchet continued in the same way but were thwarted by the Ruishton ‘keeper.

A short corner by Watchet found its way into the back of the net but the goal was deemed offside.

Just before the interval some good play at the back from Sam and Jacob worked the ball wide for George to try a run down the right. George found his way into the box where he was fouled and a penalty was awarded, which he struck well only for it to rattle off the cross bar, making it 1-0 at the break.

Watchet made three changes within the first five minutes of the second half with Rhys coming on followed by Austin and Theo who were making their first league appearances of the season.

The game continued in the same way as the first half  with Watchet controlling possession and when Ruishton did have the ball they failed to find the goal. Watchet carried on pressing high up the pitch and this led to their second goal.

Merek closed down a defender who passed back to the Ruishton keeper but the Watchet player continued, blocking the keeper’s clearance and the ball deflected into the net to make it 2-0.

Watchet were growing ever more in confidence and the third goal soon followed. With the ball bouncing around in the Ruishton box it fell nicely at Austin’s feet just on the edge of the box who struck a powerful shot which the keeper could only watch ripple the net.

There was just time for Watchet to grab one more goal before the end and this time it was the turn of Rhys to get his name onto the scoresheet.

The ball was again moved well in the midfield with George and Austin swapping passes before playing it into Rhys on edge of area who blasted it into corner of the net.

On another day Watchet could have had a couple more goals with Jack hitting the post in the second half as well but they saw the game out without conceding again this season. Watchet ‘keeper Stanley had a quiet afternoon in goal but keeping his concentration well with his handling and kicking when called upon.

The Watchet Man of the Match was awarded to Merek.
