MINEHEAD & West Somerset Golf Club Seniors started the week with a convoluted yellow ball competition played in showers and a breeze.

At the end of the event in first place with 112 points were the team of Doug Hayhoe, Steve Gay and Steve Waterman. Second place on count back with 110 points were Dave Oatridge, Dave Ball and Trevor Stephens, ahead of Chris Durman, Bob Arthington and Nigel Trevelyan.

Wednesday’s competition was an individual bogey, at the conclusion of which Andy Giles claimed the right to the winner’s enclosure with +2. Three players scored zero; second on count back was Kevin Garner, while Steve Woodbury took third place and Nigel Moore fourth.

Yet another complex Seniors’ competition was played on Friday known as a Scorpion, where the front nine were played as a betterball Stableford and the back nine a betterball medal, with both scores counting on the final hole.

The winning pair on count back with 16 points were Steve Gay and Andy Coward. Pete Young and Tony Connolly were second, while in third place with 17 points were Chris Durman and Tim Evans.

The physical exercise would be well received by the medical profession and viewed as a positive advertisement in keeping the over 55s on their toes!
