THE Seniors at Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club started off their week with a 666 competition, the result of which was close.

The winning team of Martin Hole, John Burrow and Neville Parsons achieved a nett 72, second place on countback with 71 were Ashley Stockley, Tim Evans and Graham Smith, just ahead of Chris Durman, Doug Hayhoe and Tony Connolly.

The Seniors played a friendly match away at Worlebury, where the home side managed to achieve a 6-0 win; the return fixture later this summer is now eagerly anticipated.

On Thursday, the Seniors Avalon team played their latest match at home to Enmore Park GC. This fixture always provides an engaging contest and this was no exception. Home advantage is significant in this competition because of the scoring format. Minehead ran out winners 3.5/1.5 resulting in a points total of Minehead 9, Enmore Park 4.5.

Rounding off the week, the Seniors played Round Two of the Marshall Cup, which saw a full entry of 36.

The decisive winner of this strokeplay event was Dave Walmsley with a magnificent nett 63. In second place, again with an excellent round, was Neville Parsons with 66 followed by Richard Baker in third position with 67.

Meanwhile, Oake Manor Golf Club had a busy day on Saturday when they staged a competition for the Sam Loader Cup. The event raised money for Papyrus UK a charity which provides confidential suicide prevention advice and support for young people and their families.

140 golfers played a 4 Ball Bowmaker Competition. The winning team were Michael Osguthorpe, Martin Rivers, Mark Tydings and Nick Clayton who amassed an incredible 91 points. Oliver Nott, Ashley Gaines, Charlie Hawkins and Tom Hawkins were second with 88 points while Michael Bright, Edward Winter, Glyn Pearce and John Wall were third with 85 points.

Jamie Biddiscombe was the winner of the Club Stableford Competition on Sunday. Jamie scored 37 points just piping Kevin Gratton also 37 points on count back. Dennis Lumley came third with 36 points.

Cathy Sheppard scored a nett 71 to win the Ladies Sunday Medal, Suzanne Ward came second with nett 72 and Kathy Salway was third with nett 75.

The Seniors played a Bogey Competition on Monday for the John Robbins Trophy. Glyn Pearce was the winner scoring +5 narrowly beating Martin Rivers also +5 while Rudian Williams came third in division 1 with +2. Christopher Mann won division 2 with +3, Ian Hockey came second on +2 and David Matthews was third also +2.Pam Ackers won the Ladies Stableford Competition on Tuesday scoring 35 points, Janet Howe came second with 34 points while Sheila Grant was third with 33 points.
