AN appeal has been made by police after concrete was thrown by an unknown man from a bridge over the M5 motorway, hitting a vehicle passing underneath.

The incident happened near the Dunball junction 23 at about 5.30 am on Wednesday, July 17.

The concrete smashed the roof of a van which was travelling north but the occupants avoided any injury.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary roads policing unit PC Tom Curry said: “This was a really nasty incident and it is very lucky nobody was seriously injured or worse.

“We are keen to hear from anybody who was driving along the motorway or on the A39, which crosses over it, at that time and either saw somebody acting suspiciously on the bridge, or may have relevant dashcam footage.
