RECYCLING and waste collections across the Wellington and West Somerset areas will be delayed by 24 hours next week because of the last Bank Holiday weekend of the year.

Somerset Council said collections of recycling, refuse, and garden waste would all be a day later than usual.

It means collections usually made on a Monday will instead be taken on Tuesday (August 29) and so on throughout the week.

Collections due on Friday (September 1) will take place on Saturday (September 2).

A spokesperson said: “To help crews speed up collections, please present boxes, bags, and bins by 7 am on the day of collection, or the night before.

“With waste collections a day later, a higher volume of waste is likely.

“Squashing, crushing and flattening waste can help to reduce the number of trips crews need to make to empty trucks and so speed up collections and reduce missed collections.”

All 16 of Somerset’s recycling sites will be open as usual at the weekend, from 9 am to 4 pm, and those which usually open on a Monday will operate on Bank Holiday Monday (August 28) from 9 am to 6 pm.
