A WEST Somerset luxury bed and breakfast business has scooped two separate prestigious awards in just one night.

Bossington Hall, on Exmoor, only changed to become a bed and breakfast establishment in 2021 in response to the Covid pandemic, but since then it has picked up a string of business awards.

Now, on the same night last week, it won ‘B&B of the Year’ from the respected Taste of the West Awards, and also an ‘Editor’s Choice’ from the Good Hotel Guide.

Bossington Hall has been run by former aerospace engineer Guy Dewdney and his wife Annie since they bought it in 2016 and converted it from a number of self-contained flats back to one property.

Mr Dewdney said: “Winning these awards has been a culmination of years of very hard work and long hours.

“Having been thrust into the hospitality trade, my team members have all worked together to help me build this amazing business, and this shows that we must be doing something right.”

Mr Dewdney said the Taste of the West award in particular was ‘a real test’ with a ‘secret shopper’ staying in the accommodation and assessing everything from its award-winning Little Oak Farm sausages to how clean was the shower.

He said: “We aced everything.

“We are incredibly proud of this award in particular, as it showcases the South West’s champion products, from pasties to jam to bed and breakfasts.”

Mr Dewdney said of the Good Hotel Guide award: “This is a real honour, the guide only includes places that have had outstanding reviews and we can only thank our guests who have spent valuable time writing reviews for the guide.”

Among the other recent awards which have been won by Bossington Hall was a bronze in the Visit England Awards for Excellence, and South West Tourism’s ‘B&B of the Year’ earlier in the year, and it has received gold awards for three consecutive years from Taste of the West.

The bed and breakfast property is located near Porlock with views over Bossington Bay and Exmoor’s Dunkery Beacon, which is the highest point in Somerset.
