A little boy who was born without his left hand is hoping to raise £20k so he can be fitted with a "superhero" bionic arm.

Brodie Foster, seven, was born with a wrist and half a palm on his left arm and he hasn't let it hold him back. 

But now the growing boy wants more independence and to be able to climb monkey bars, tie his shoelaces and do tricks on his scooter.

His parents, Naomi and Jason Foster, both 30, spotted a story about another boy being fitted with an Open Bionics arm and said Brodie was "so excited" when he saw it.

The family are now fundraising for the £20k needed for the arm - which comes in several different Marvel designs.

Naomi, who is training to be dog groomer, from Woolavington, Somerset, said: "I've been a massive Disney fan. When I found out he had one hand I said 'OMG, he's like Nemo'.

"He calls it his lucky fin. I never wanted to change him.

"I brought him up to love him for who he is.

"I want him to have this arm to be proud of."

Naomi and Jason, a civil engineer, found at their 20-week scan that Brodie didn't have a left hand.

Doctors have never been able to confirm the reason for his birth defect and said it was "one of those things".

Naomi said: "He was born with his wrist and half a palm.

"He just amazes us every day."

Brodie also suffered a burn to his right hand when he was just 14 months after he accidentally poured hot water onto it from a water dispenser.

Naomi said: "He couldn't move his fingers at one point. It's absolutely fine now but it is heavily scared."

Brodie - who calls his small hand his "lucky fin" - is now at the age where he is starting to notice the limitations of it.

He struggles to grip which means he can't participate in some sports fully or do flips on his scooter safely. 

Naomi had previously been offered a surgery for Brodie which involved taking a toe from each of his feet and putting it on his hand but this didn't feel right for the family.

She said: "I didn't want him to have funny feet."

But then the family saw a story of another child who had received a Marvel themed Open Bionics arm.

Naomi said: "We watched this video of his hero arm and thought that was so Brodie.

"He's a massive Marvel fan.

"When he saw the video of the arm he hugged me and burst into tears.

"He was so excited."

The family have now started a fundraiser to try and raise the money needed for Brodie's arm - which will give him even more independence.

Naomi said: "He's started to get to the age where he wants more independence.

"It will give him more reason not to ask for help.

"I don't want him to ever hide it."
