BUS passengers in the Wellington and West Somerset areas are being warned of strike action which is likely to affect services in the next few days.

Industrial action is being taken by some Buses of Somerset (BoS) staff on August 9, 10, 11, and 12.

The National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers (RMT) has said its members will strike on Friday, August 9, and Monday, August 12.

The strikes will be either side of RMT industrial action, including withholding overtime, on Saturday, August 10, and Sunday, August 11.

Somerset Council said it would do its best to communicate affected services to the public alongside any communications by BoS across social and local media.

The RMT said First Bus employees were the lowest paid with the worst conditions in the Westcountry, but BoS said its drivers were paid well above the national minimum wage.

A council spokesperson said: “Negotiations continue, but if the action goes ahead the disruption will only affect the BoS services, provided by First Bus South, not other providers operating in the county.

“The extent of the disruption will not be known until the days of action themselves.

“In the event of strike action, unfortunately, no service can be guaranteed and all may be subject to last minute change.

“Passengers should check before travelling.”

The spokesperson said the latest information could be found at  https://www.firstbus.co.uk/somerset and https://www.firstbus.co.uk/adventures-bus for the Exmoor Coaster service, or by calling First Bus on 0345 646 0707.
